The Philosophy of Instruction

As an instructor, I will be able to teach students in a strong and effective manner. I plan to accomplish this by being an instructor that listens to a student needs, is responsive, creates a safe and stable environment that evokes learning, and finally I will teach students to be consistent and competent in art. I wanted to become a teacher to allow for students to grow and have the same type of experience that I had in art class. I want my students to feel encouraged to express themselves in my classroom and feel like they are in a safe and nurturing environment. I want to provide this opportunity for students because I know that life can be hard in high school and that sometimes you need a different avenue to learn rather than textbooks and tests. I personally feel like I hope to get a sense of fulfillment at teaching that I wouldn’t get from any other profession, this I feel will mainly be by knowing that I will be a positive aspect of my students’ lives. I hope my students leave my classroom knowing how to creatively problem solve and feel competent at whatever level art they take up in the future, whether it be professional or recreational.

I hope to allow students to learn through their preferred learning style. This means that I will offer instruction that adheres to student’s ability to take in additory information, visual information, and kinesthetic information. This means that I plan have multiple demonstrations and lectures with mixed in diagram and images while offering kinesthetic activities most likely through projects. While putting in all manners of learning, it should be noted that I will also be inclusive of my students’ backgrounds. I decide to do this by integrating artists and people of influence that share their cultural backgrounds into my lesson plans whenever possible. This allows my students to see that anyone can be an artist regardless of cultural background and this will allow students to feel confident in themselves whether or not they go into art as a profession. I will also be inclusive to students who do not coincide with a specific gender and will include artists from multiple genders. In order to do this, I plan to refrain from using gender specific terms and will instead use gender neutral terms. I will also introduce artists from many gender backgrounds in order to better include a wide variety of students. It is important to include all of our students into class; this is the only way to be sure that every student is involved and feels important in the learning process. When we include all the students in the class structure, they learn more and become more successful adults.

I believe that the school should provide a good room and apple resources to allow students to create and allow their creativity to flourish and grow. I think resources are what are included in the classroom and population. The classroom should offer students ample ability to succeed and grow.  The population provides its own resources from which I am responsible to note, such as social group (economic, culture, and regional). It is I believe that the school should provide the room and supplies to create art. While the supplies can only get us so far, it is my job to be able to create purposeful and meaningful projects with the resources I have available to my disposal. I will bring my art expertise and knowledge of the art to the classroom as a personal resource to help create educational projects for students. I then will take this social group in mind and create curriculum and lesson plans that takes the population into mind. I will also use common day objects into my projects, when possible, so that my students can create art outside of the classroom. I also want my students to leave my classroom with the ability to solve everyday problems with creative ideas as well as the complex ones. I also want all my students able to critically examine objects and be able to make educated assumptions about the object based on the object’s features. These assumptions can be the objects possible origins, uses, and purposes.

In my classroom, I hope to interact with every student that walks through my door. I will start up each class by being on time and in the classroom in order to welcome each and every student into my class, each and every day. I will do my best to make sure that every student takes participation in the class and doesn’t feel uncomfortable in the classroom. In my classroom I want my students to feel like they are in a safe and stable environment. I have decided to keep bullying and discrimination out of classroom. I intend to do this by keeping it out of my language and thought process to the best of my ability and being intolerable of it from my students. This is to ensure that every student is able to learn and express themselves in my classroom. I hope to get my students to leave with the ability to give and receive constructive criticism. I want my students to be able to give constructive feedback to other peers without coming off as aggressive or offensive. I also want my students to be able to decide whether to use constructive criticism is in the students’ best interest to follow the criticism or ignore it and improve on their own work. I will be able to tell if this “feel” is in the classroom is there if the students improve in their artwork and if the students can apply creativity outside the classroom and be able to handle healthy criticism.

I will set my students up to succeed by providing students a consistent and reliable model. I have decided to give my students opportunities to learn and develop their own styles and ways of creating art. I am responsible for providing students with prompts designed to allow creative freedom and artistic growth. I intend to be responsible to show students basic and complex art techniques, but I plan to leave it to the students come up with their own projects and appropriate content. I will start off with basic skills and then use scaffolding to improve students’ skills to more complex techniques. I plan to help every student who needs it by listening carefully and helping students respectfully. I have decided to keep my classroom clean and organized in order to model a good art studio. I will be open for students to talk to and have discussions with. I plan to help every student to the best of my ability, even if it’s not in the field of art as long as it is important. I hope to involve all my students in the classroom by giving them responsibilities that imitate those that they will encounter in the job force, such as cleaning and keeping materials good and usable.

The basic responsibility of every educator is to allow their students to learn and experience growth as a person. An educator is in some cases a model that spends more time with a student than the average person and can become a figure of great significance. In this we have a strong responsibility to adhere to certain code to allow students to see use as role models of exceptional behavior. We, however, are not better than the students we teach and are people as well. This vital in the growth of students who, are quite impressionable during high school. An educator should be able to get every student to learn at least one thing from their class and allow them to become a well-educated adult.
